When younger, I used to do fantasy paintings of horses. I stopped doing those because I thought they wouldn´t be considered "serious" enough. Well, now I don´t care anymore if my work is considered to be serious or not, I rather paint what I like.
The model for this work is Yogi, an Arabian stallion of another member of EAG, Inge Manders. I had planned to paint a portrait of a horse against a full moon and when I saw Yogi´s beautiful profile I knew I had found the right horse for the work. At first I thought I´d paint mist around the horse, but this oriental motive was more in the spirit of Yogi.

Nuorena tein usein fantasiamaalauksia hevosista. Lopetin niiden tekemisen vuosiksi, koska arvelin, ettei niitä pidettäisi tarpeeksi ”vakavina”. No, en enää välitä siitä ovatko työni vakavia vai eivät, mieluummin maalaan sitä mistä itse pidän.
Tämän työn mallina on käytetty toisen EAGn jäsenen, Inge Mandersin, arabiori Yogia. Olin jo pitkään suunnitellut muotokuvaa hevosesta täysikuuta vasten ja kun näin Yogin kauniin profiilin, tiesin löytäneeni juuri oikean hevosen. Ensin ajattelin maalata usvaa kietoutumaan hevosen ympärille, mutta tämä itämainen motiivi sopi Yogin olemukseen paremmin.
